Our sleek phones have replaced our watches. Earbuds double as jewelry. Google Glass will one day be the ultimate polarized, portable computer. Thankfully, savvy designers know that technology, once dismissed as geek gadgets, must integrate seamlessly into our lives—and our wardrobes. Pony hair and 18k gold iPhone cover, anyone?
One of the most popular new accessories spotted in the Capitol is the Bandolier, a stylish, hands-free way to wear your iPhone. Its co-creator Maggie Drake easily recalls her aha moment. “I was standing in my kitchen a few years ago and I had lost my cell phone for the umpteenth time in my own home,” she recalls. “I remember thinking to myself, ‘If only I could wear my phone!’”
Available in 20 styles ranging from the disco-inspired snake chain Belinda (pictured left; $95) to the Chanel-esque Libby in black leather interwoven with gold chain ($125), the line already has devotees in Effie and Cinna; outside the Capitol, popstar Pink is a fan. Each one—designed by Drake and her partner Colleen Karis—features slots for credit cards and a cash stash.
When it comes to earbuds, we’re gaga for the sophisticated Wearefrends line. Inspired by jewelry, these delicate accessories in silver or rose gold ($99) feature a soft fabric cord and come in a zippered case. Check out their bold, gold-plated headphones too for a more dramatic look.
